Wildfire Safety Fair in Brentwood

Following a series of meetings with area homeowners, MySafe:LA partnered with the Brentwood Homeowner’s Association, multiple other HOAs, as well as first responders and safety vendors to develop and present the first Wildfire Safety Fair on the west side for 2023.

The event was hosted at The Brentwood School and drew an audience of several hundred area residents. The LAFD performed a wildfire helicopter flyover, had multiple fire apparatus and members on hand, and was joined by the LAPD, LA EMD, LAcoFD, insurance experts, and organizations producing products to create safer homes.

Free lunch and ice cream were made available to all attendees, and the general reaction to the event was highly popular. “We spoke to a lot of people who wanted to know what steps to take relative to a wildfire,” said MySafe:LA Commander David Barrett. “Many of these attendees were really happy to be here. Speaking with our members and all of the presenting partners highlights that wildfire prevention takes a village.”

People learned about the inexpensive products available to harden a home. The LAcoFD issued more than 100 free NOAA alert radios, and MySafe:LA handed out a wide array of prizes to event attendees. A band provided terrific background music, and a great time was had by all.

MySafe:LA is already working on planning the next wildfire safety fair – and expects to conduct a number of them in the coming months.
